Even when I was very young I
was interested in colors, texture and putting things together. I
remember when I was about 10, I thought the shades in my bedroom were a
bit uninteresting so I took my crayons and colored a scene on them. My
mother was not happy and I had a timeout but today she
apologizes to me and says that she had no idea that this was part of
many beginnings all headed for interior design. During my teenage
years, I took part in anything that was creative: sewing, painting,
piano, ceramics, making signs, and designing our church float in the 8th
grade. Receiving awards from those endeavors drove me to achieve more.
I went on to college at SIU-C,
Carbondale, Il. and received a 4 year, B. S. degree in Interior Design.
After college I worked at Niemann Flooring which was small at first.
Dennis Niemann verbally guaranteed his workmanship and was one of the
best installers in the area. I suggested he write a written guarantee
on the back of every sales slip and the idea was born. I was his only
salesperson at first but the business grew to enormous heights. He now
owns 2 of the largest flooring stores in Murphysboro and Marion, Il.
and is very successful. I sold flooring for him and then measured every
job and saw that everything went smoothly from beginning to end. One
year, I was top salesperson and won my way to Lake Tahoe, Nevada where
the Niemann’s and my husband and I vacationed for 1 week.
During the time I worked at
Niemann’s I discovered an art class being taught close by. My hobby
was born, I took as many classes as I could locally.
I then started my own business, “Rosalie’s
Art and Gift Studio” in Murphysboro, Illinois where I taught how
create oil
paintings to hundreds of students and eventually had 83 students per
week. I was an instructor at John A. Logan’s Adult Education, a Jr.
College out of Carterville, Illinois for about 6 years.
After having 2 wonderful boys,
we decided to move to my husband’s family farm outside of Highland,
Illinois. I was a stay at home mom for a number of years but I managed
to do lots of artwork and start selling my art locally as well as in St.
Louis at art shows. I am still selling and you will find my work at the
Country Treasure shows at Belle Clair Fairgrounds in Belleville,
Effingham, and Springfield, Il. I also sell at the large High Schools
from Troy, Il to Lindbergh, Mo.
I recently joined Accents
Unlimited and am very excited to be on Cathy’s team. I will be an
outside salesperson and will bring samples to your home of the fabulous
Norman blinds, shutters and shades. Actually seeing the samples in your
home will allow you to make wise decisions for color and quality and as
Cathy says: “At an affordable price.”
I will also be available for
any other design decisions you may need.
I will also be available for
painting any murals on your walls. With my art background, I can
design up just about anything you would like. Many options and ideas
will be available to you. Have an original painted on your wall. I am
looking forward to helping you make wise decisions. Together we can
make your home an exciting and unique place.
